Top TV This Week: 30th Sept – 6th Oct
The sun came back out to play this weekend and, while we perhaps didn’t quite brave the shorts and t-shirt, many of us around the country were more active while the sun was out. That last minute barbecue, bike ride or picnic in the park has somewhat depleted energy stores. Thankfully, this week promises a return to form with clouds and showers throughout the week, so it’s time to get comfy and curl up in front of the TV. Here’s our pick of the week’s TV offerings. Remember, to get the most out of your TV treats, and to make sure you’ve got the perfect viewing angle, purchase TV wall brackets from us at 123 Brackets and relax in perfect comfort.
Monday: Proper Pub Food, BBC2, 8.30pm
Did someone say barbecue? Tom Kerridge gets us salivating with some delicious recipes for outdoor cooking, from fish burgers with fresh lobster, to an intriguing barbecue maple cake and rounding off a meal with slow-cooked beef ribs. If you can make the sun stay out, we’ll bring the coals….
Tuesday: The Great British Bake Off, BBC2 8pm
It seems we have a culinary theme going this week. The immensely successful ‘GBBO’ is back on our screens again this week. It is pastry week and host, Mary Berry, is determined to challenge the contestants to make some truly remarkable desserts, including ‘religieuse’; an unbelievably technical French pastry classic. Which contestants will make it through to the quarter-finals?
Wednesday: The Match, Sky Sports 2, 7pm
Manchester City vs. Bayern Munich. Fresh from their victory against Manchester United, City will be keen to get off to a good start in this match. They also won their first European game this season. However, they’re up against the reigning champions and favourites to win; Bayern Munich. Maybe even the United fans will back their compatriots and support City for this match?
Thursday: Educating Yorkshire, Channel 4, 9pm
This fly-on-the-wall series has been fascinating so far, as we see the trials and tribulations of a tough comprehensive in Yorkshire. In the series, we see both staff and students struggle through the day, and this episode focuses on a lot of hormone-ridden Year 9 students. Mr. Moses, the saintliest of teachers, copes with tantrums, tearaways and those set out for mischief, all the while wishing for a little romance in his personal life. It is compelling watching as viewers recall and compare their own high school days, and no doubt feel thankful that they are a thing of the past.
Friday: Citizen Khan, BBC1, 9.30pm
Friday is comedy night, so what better way to unwind from the week at work! Citizen Khan is back for a second series, starting tonight. Mr. Khan’s day off is interrupted by bad news about his daughter’s school results. It’s relaxing comedy and well worth settling into.
Saturday: The X Factors, ITV, 8.20
It’s Boot Camp! The format is a little different this year and all the more nerve-racking for contestants. Basically, candidates are asked to sit in one of six hot-seats if they perform well in their auditions, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they are through to the next round; if another candidate performs better, they could be usurped at any minute. It’s a nerve-racking show and well-designed to see who deals well with pressure, and who has the competitive edge. Will your favourite get through?
Sunday: Homeland, Channel 4, 9pm
Homeland returns for a third series. The dark drama-thriller continues to follow bi-popular CIA agent, Carrie Matheson, and Nicholas Brody, a US marine sniper who was held captive by al-Qaeda, as they weave through tense plots and terrifying situations. The show has won a series of awards. If you haven’t seen the first two series, you’ve got the week to catch up before series three starts on Sunday. Don’t miss it.
